A cosy rural retreat in the Surrey woods…..Coming soon under new management! Offering a range of affordable accommodation for individuals, families and groups.

Hidden in the woods of the Surrey Hills, almost a mile from the nearest road, Tanners Hatch is a fairytale cottage that's been welcoming visitors for nearly eighty years. Set in glorious woodland on the National Trust's beautiful Polesden Lacey Estate, it's ideally placed for walking, cycling, group holidays or just immersing yourself in nature. You couldn't find a more peaceful retreat. Offering hospitality to individuals, families and groups, you can stay for a night, a weekend or longer.

After almost 80 years as one of the jewels in the crown of UK hostels, this iconic hostel closed last year. Now a group of volunteers who love it and has been visiting for years has agreed with the National Trust an outline plan for running it as an independent hostel. We hope to have a final deal soon and to open in summer 2026.
