Volunteering: We need YOU!

Would you like to join our brilliant band of volunteers? You can have fun, learn new skills, make friends and boost your CV, and all while helping bring Tanners Hatch back to life for everyone to enjoy.
Tanners Hatch is entirely volunteer-run and this is part of what makes us special, so we're always looking for those who are willing to give up their time and effort to support the hostel.
There are a range of opportunities available, for one day or longer, both skilled and unskilled. Some require training, others don't. If you would like to help rejuvenate Tanners Hatch, there should be an opportunity for you! We provide tools and supervision.
At time of writing, the hostel is an empty shell and needs kitting out, the gardens are overgrown and the campsite is a wilderness. Tanners needs you!
Imminent & Ongoing Opportunities
- Gardening, including weeding, mowing and planting
- Reclaiming the woodland campsite, clearing the undergrowth, strimming, creating new paths
- Shifting furniture, building beds
- Painting and decorating the building, inside and out
- Maintenance and repair of the building
We will be running working parties for many of these jobs, an opportunity to meet like-minded people and have fun. Contact us and we can tell you when they will be running. We also welcome skilled individuals for specific tasks.

Volunteer Wardens
In due course we will also be looking for Volunteer Wardens who will stay onsite for short periods to manage the hostel and support our guests. They will get to enjoy the serenity of Tanners' tranquil setting away from the hubbub and give something back to this special place. Warden training is provided free of charge.
We also welcome corporate volunteering days and can provide support with organising these.
Join our team of volunteers
Whether it’s helping in the garden, doing a touch of maintenance, or decorating and furnishing the cottage, all are welcome to join the team of dedicated volunteers bringing this historic hostel back to life.
